Video Games, Donuts & Forest Bathing - Engagement of Michael & Taylor
Michael and Taylor are two warm, loving, and thoughtful humans who invited me to spend a couple of hours with them on their âengagementâ session last fall.
They havenât set a date for the wedding yet, because they have lots of exciting things on the horizon: house-hunting, and a baby on the way!
(this last bit of news was originally a secret, so this is why this blog didnât come out earlier :P)
When planning an engagement session with people, I always ask: what is meaningful to you? What do you enjoy doing together, and creating memories of?
Taylor and Michael had a few activities in mind: firstly, video games! They love to play Super Smash Bros together, and make all sorts of quirky, cute, ADORABLE faces while doing so!
Their uber-cute pup Ziggy, sits close by, to take in all the fun.
Naturally, we wanted to capture a video game session in photographs! So we spent the first ten minutes having them play a game together.
After that, we staged a cute photo of them reading âWhat to Expect When Youâre Expectingâ, the pregnancy book.
Then, they shared a donut.
And I snapped a portrait of Ziggy, and his adorable fuzzy ears.
Then we headed outside. We drove to Parrott's Bay Conservation Area, just West of Kingston, to go for a hike and take more photos!
The majority of photos we took here were completely candid. I tried to capture the spirit of Michael and Taylor, enjoying each otherâs company while on the trails. The leaves were starting to turn colour, and the entire conservation area had this gorgeous fall hue.
We did stop to take some posed shots, and these were really cute. For one of them, I had them throwing some leaves.
In another, they wanted to climb a tree. Taylor looked super comfortable perched in a tree, but she was trying hard not to fall backwards!
One of my favourite quirky images of that day, was when they both looked up at some tall trees. I intentionally framed that photograph with them in the bottom right corner.
I wanted to showcase the glory of the forest, and the coupleâs oneness with nature in this shot.
When we were near the marshes, we stopped to take a couple of kissy photos. Michael and Taylor were just way too adorable.
It was a really beautiful afternoon spent together, and Iâm happy we made so many photographic memories of their âengagementâ, before life got really busy for them (as new parents)!
I hope you enjoy these natural, and mostly-candid, engagement photos. What kind of engagement activities would be the perfect ones for YOU?
