Downtown Kingston Engagement | Denise & Kevin Relive Their 1st Date at Princess Street, KBC & City Park
Aw, Denise and Kevin. 🥰
This was such a sweet and meaningful engagement session.
When we were first planning this engagement session with Denise and Kevin, I asked them: what would make this something memorable and meaningful for you?
You know, something where we’re not just going to look for a pretty backdrop and take a bunch of awkward posed photos?
So, we chatted about recreating their first date, in downtown Kingston.
On their first date, they walked down Princess Street South towards the water. And they somehow ended up at City Park, late at night.
As soon as they told me that, I knew that we had to at least try to make this happen for their engagement session.
Why?
Because this way it's something meaningful for them than just taking random photos at a random place…and that way, they actually get to relive the memories of their multiple times.
So we met up on Clergy and Princess Street in Kingston at late afternoon in August.
They both grabbed Timmy's drinks, and we walked together down the street. We didn't really do any posing here, we just took our time and enjoy the scene, and we got a really good city vibes from this. And I ran around being a paparazzo.
At one point I actually asked them to stand in the street, which was luckily at this point quite empty.
We made it to City Hall, where we of course we took some really hilarious photos - cute hilarious. And also some adorable ones, too.
That little bit at the pit of City Hall, that has the touristy stuff with I heart Kingston and all the hearts and case - we stopped there too.
Just look at how cute they are. First they couldn't keep their hands off of each other, and second they're always making each other laugh. You line I just love how in love they are.
Some of the completely candid photographs of Denise and Kevin were just of them walking around near the fountains in front of City hall, admiring the greenery, and hanging out on the rocks, witting with their feet suspended over the water.
I thought this particular moment might look really great from a different angle, so I ran to the pier and took a photograph of them far off in the distance. I framed it so that you wouldn’t see anything else except the couple and the water in front of them. What do you think? (see photo below)
One of the coolest things that evening was that this beautiful big rainbow appeared over the water, just as we were walking that way.
We took some photographs of the couple looking at the rainbow, snuggling under the rainbow, and of Denise pinching Kevin's cheeks under the rainbow – for good luck.
Just kidding!
I have no idea of the spring brings good luck or not, but maybe Kevin is her pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.. Super cheesy, I know, haha, but I just had to throw it out there :P
After this, it started to get dark, and we stopped for a drink at the Kingston Brewing Company (KBC) for a drink.
This is where I brought out the flash popped it on my camera and took a couple of fancy shots like this one with this closing shutter or shuttered rag. You line what I'm trying to do here with this effect is to give a vision of timelessness. Because the background lights are so blurred, it makes anything Kevin look like they're expended in a little bubble of Happiness, just having a drink somewhere on a patio, but not really a distinguishable Place.
Because for this Photograph, I didn't want it really matter where they were, but just the moment that they were together that fact was important enough to capture.
(totally small aside, but KBC has the best vegan burger EVER. It’s called the plant-based Royale, and it is super juicy and beefy in the best plant-based way! It’s extra delicious because of the vegan mayo and cheese! I also dared to have my side fries with their in-house ghost pepper dipping sauce… I only dipped once though - super spicy! Haha. But my hubby loves it a lot!)
And then we walked over to City Park, where their first date ended years ago. We did really silly things here, like had them climb that big tree you see below and look at each other longingly, and even kiss while playing on the jungle gym.
When we had first planned a session, we really were hoping that the sky would be clear that day, so we could get some pictures of the stars above them in the playground.
Alas, by the time we made it to City park, the sky grew overcast (but then… remember that rainbow? that was pretty cool and well worth it and nothing we could have planned!).
And clouds or not, we still got some awesome images of them kissing underneath the clouds.
And I'll leave you off at this photograph – Denise hugging and Kevin he yawns.
I think Kevin and Denise were total troopers this evening, and they made the absolute most out of this engagement session.
Everybody has a lot of fun, and Denise and Kevin ended up having a much easier time of it then they thought they would. (I don’t think Kevin is super thrilled about being photographed. But he obliged, andI think he ended up having lots of fun too! So much fun it made him sleepy :) )
